Baiji

The Baiji population declined drastically in recent decades as China industrialized and made heavy use of the river for fishing, transportation, and hydroelectricity. As China developed economically, pressure on the river dolphin grew significantly. Industrial and residential waste flowed into the Yangtze. The riverbed was dredged and reinforced with concrete in many locations. Ship traffic multiplied, boats grew in size, and fishermen employed wider and more lethal nets. Noise pollution caused the nearly blind animal to collide with propellers. In the 1970s and 1980s, an estimated half of Baiji deaths were attributed to entanglement in fishing gear. Only a few hundred were left by 1970. Then the number dropped down to 400 by the 1980s and then to 13 in 1997 when a full-fledged search was conducted. The dolphin was declared functionally extinct after an expedition late in 2006 failed to record a single individual after an extensive search of the animal’s entire range.

Tyrannosaurus Rex

Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs that ever lived. Everything about this ferocious predator, from its thick, heavy skull to its 4-foot-long (1.2-meter-long) jaw, was designed for maximum bone-crushing action.

Fossil evidence shows thatTyrannosaurus was about 40 feet (12 meters) long and about 15 to 20 feet (4.6 to 6 meters) tall. Its strong thighs and long, powerful tail helped it move quickly, and its massive 5-foot-long (1.5-meter-long) skull could bore into prey.

T. rex's serrated, conical teeth were most likely used to pierce and grip flesh, which it then ripped away with its brawny neck muscles. Its two-fingered forearms could probably seize prey, but they were too short to reach its mouth.

Scientists believe this powerful predator could eat up to 500 pounds (230 kilograms) of meat in one bite. Fossils of T. rex prey, including Triceratops andEdmontosaurus, suggest T. rex crushed and broke bones as it ate, and broken bones have been found in its dung.

Tyrannosaurus rex lived in forested river valleys in North America during the late Cretaceous period. It became extinct about 65 million years ago in the Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction.

One of the largest dinosaurs that ever lived, Tyrannosaurus rex was a fierce carnivore. Scientists believe this powerful predator could eat up to 500 pounds (230 kilograms) of meat in one bite.

Rhynchosaurus (beaked lizard) is a genus of rhynchosaur that lived during the Middle Triassic Period

Mastodonsaurus ("breast tooth lizard") was a large-headed amphibian of the Triassic. It was a giant among the stegocephalians and the largest animal 200 million years ago. It looked like a huge frog, with a triangular head that was about 4 feet long and with total body length about 15 feet long. Mastodonsaurus inhabited swampy pools and lived mainly on fish.

Hyperodapedon was a beaked reptile from the late Triassic. Fossils have been found in several continents, due to the continents being joined together during the Triassic.

Tulerpeton lived mainly in shallow marine water in Devonian times and is one of the first true tetrapods to have arisen. Tetrapods are vertebrate animals having four limbs. Amphibians, sauropsids and mammals are tetrapods. 

Zeuglodon

                              The Zeuglodon, or Basilosaurus, "King of the Reptiles", lived during the Eocene about 40 to 50 million years ago. It was an early, 44 toothed, 55 to 75 foot long whale species with small hind legs.  Zeuglodon remains have been found in North America and Africa and it's Alabama's State Fossil.

The Zeuglodon has been extinct for about 37 million years.  Although you might want to keep your eyes open when swimming.  Some believe the large serpent sightings of Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, Lake Okanagan in Canada and other lakes around the world may be descendants of the Zeuglocon or a related species.

Quagga

           Quagga, Equus burchelli quagga, of the Karoo Plains and southern Free State of South Africa were a subspecies of the Burchell’s Zebra, although their unique appearance wouldn't necessarily make this apparent.  Some thought incorrectly that the Quagga was the female of Burchell's Zebra, probably because the natives gave both zebras the same name. 

In the wild, Quaggas, Ostriches and Wildebeests often grazed together in what was termed the "triple alliance".  The Quagga's hearing, the Ostrich's eyesight and the Wildibeast's keen sense of smell comprised excellent defense from predators for the entire herd.  However, its limited range made it all the more vulnerable and Quaggas were hunted to the brink of extinction in the mid 19th Century by settlers razing sheep, goats and other livestock. The last Quagga died in in 1883 in an Amsterdam Zoo.People said that Quagga's is a combination of zebra and horse.

Long Jawed Mastodon

Long Jawed Mastodons stood about 4 1/2 ft high, had four tusks and lived in the Oligocene epoch (from about 33.7 to 23.8 million years ago), part of the Tertiary Period in the Cenozoic Era.

During the Oligocene epoch, the first Mastodons lived  in Africa and their larger descendants spread over Asia, Europe and finally to Northern America about 15 million years ago in the Miocene (23.8 to 5.3 million years ago.)   The last Long-jawed Mastodons lived in North America and became extinct near the end of the Pleistocene (1.8 million to 11,000 years ago)

Saber tooth tigers jaws is the same size as our head.Saber tooth tigers lived in Europe and North America.  They were fast runners for short distances and probably ambushed their prey in packs.  The Hoplophoneus species lived 20 million years ago.  The Smilodon species lived during the Pleistocene from 1.6 million years ago to 10,000 years ago when it became extinct.
